Habits!

I didn’t post yesterday! Not because I didn’t feel like it, I forgot!

I’m working on a new product about focus. I’m really excited about it. It will have a banner here in the sidebar when I’m done, shouldn’t be too long. I have messed up on the sales page a little and have to figure that out. I will, though.

The daily video –

3rd day.

They talk about habits. 95% of what we do is habit. 95%?!? Maybe I remembered that wrong LOL but, yeah, I can see it.

Merriam-Webster says a habit is “a settled tendency or usual manner of behavior.” Behavior. That’s a word I’ve never really thought about. I’ve been told to behave. Or, my behavior might suggest… blahblah. I’ll think about it.

I had a telemarketing job once, and that’s the first time I heard how to develop a habit. Doing something over and over 21 times (or 7 or 50 depending on who you talk to) will form a habit.

Ones that I consciously remember is about ice scoops. When you work in the restaurant industry, the ice scoop is a very important part of the job. That is… where you put the ice scoop when you’re finished scooping ice.

Funny thing is, every city’s health department has a different idea about it. Some want it back in the ice. Some want it OUT of the ice. Some want it in a container. Thankfully we can all agree on what temperature food should be, but we can’t agree on where the ice scoop goes.

Every time I would get transferred to a new store, it was usually in a different city, so I had to relearn what to do with the ice scoop. I would usually do this during the busiest time, so I could use it more often. I would do it the “right” way and count out loud every time, till I got to 21. If I missed, I’d start over.

I suspect I’ll be changing lots of behaviors over the next few months, in order to get this fear thing in check. It’s scary and I don’t wanna do it. We’ll see how it goes.
